Hello my loves! Been a while huh? Life has really been doing its ‘thing’ lately, its ‘thing’ being: throwing enormous curveballs I haven’t managed to dodge.
In 2023 I felt like I was scrambling - trying to stay planted on the rug that kept being pulled from under me - grief, break ups, mental health wobbles - y’know - 'life things’. I thought I was being very strong moving through the grief of losing my Uncle in April as quickly as possible. I couldn’t. I thought I was being realistic and powerful by accepting the end of my decade long relationship with my partner and getting straight back to ‘work and goals’, in September, but I couldn’t. The pain eventually caught up with me and put me right in bed for a while, because ALAS! I am not a robot, I’ve got a beating heart and a brain full of memories and hope.
My life as I knew it had slipped out of my hands, and the only way to cope with this was to go back to basics — food, water, sleep. Which meant reading, writing, pounding out newsletters and organising the workshops I had promised slipped out of my hands too, again, cos’ not a robot.
But life has done its ‘thing’ again, its ‘thing’ being: persisted despite my grief and waited for me. And now I’m back — beating heart, brain full of memories and hope.
Everything is new again. I have been handed a fresh start. Along with some new perspective, new routines, new friends, new ways of coping — I come armed with a new newsletter! This place needed a good clean out.
So welcome to The Write Thing, a newsletter dedicated to the writing life. Expect interviews with your favourite writers, zoom poetry workshops with special guests, and your usual poetry prompts. To receive interviews and prompts please sign up to paid, workshops will be included in the paid feature for free, however if you’d like to join without paying monthly, keep your eyes on your inbox as you’ll be able to join in on the poetry fun for a small fee.
